It has been multiple times since I try to get rid of social media by doing spontaneous breaks and deleting the apps from my phone. I go back to in a month or so. It's addicting. It's comforting with the silly videos the public shares for everyone else to see. What bothers me is the constant "Have you seen this?" or "did you see the video I sent you?" and then being outcasted if I haven't. I've slowly replaced the shame they bestow upon me for missing some pointless trending video with pity. I think this time is different. I hope it will be so anyways. Social media is many good things as it bring a large community together (online!) yet it diverses real life communities. The longest I went without social media (in this case, TT and IG: was a whole month). I spent more quality time with family and got back into reading books. I went back to social media because I felt too bored with my free time now that I felt I had endless free time. I'm not jobless but considering I work from home, it does overlap with my everyday mundane life. I clean, I attend my patient, I tend to my pets and even got into gardening in fabric pots (slow but successful progress). Back to the doomscrolling, I've read less than I wanted. I left with no real structure or schedule to fulfill the large gapping whole social media created in me. This time, I will try a different approach. Such as:
The rise of A.I. literally makes me naseaus. Every form of it makes me cringe. I thought someone close to me understood the damage it is doing but they recently shared they've fallen victim to listening to AI story telling videos with the plots that could easily be better read from someone's fanfiction. I was truly disappointed in this person but alas I cannot and will not control what they consume online. I can only control what I consume and how I do so. I hope this new plan works and I hope someone else here is inspired by it and doesn't find me crazy in this day and age.
